Severe storms and extreme heat are impacting large portions of the United States this week, with conditions expected to persist into the weekend.
On Thursday, over 500 storm reports were recorded, including more than a dozen tornadoes in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

The severe weather is affecting millions across the U.S. On Friday, 66 million people are at risk of severe storms, with damaging winds being the primary threat in the mid-Atlantic, Appalachians, and Northeast. A smaller area in the southern Plains, including parts of Oklahoma and Texas, faces risks of hail, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes. On Saturday, 14 million people in the Midwest and Plains, including cities like Wichita and St. Louis, are under threat from wind gusts exceeding 75 mph, hail larger than 2 inches, and tornadoes. Extreme heat in the East and West poses health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
