Although the forests eventually recovered, the process took thousands of generations, far exceeding human timescales. Modern forests face additional pressures, including deforestation, wildfires, and habitat fragmentation, which could exacerbate the impacts of global warming. The study highlights the potential for long-lasting ecosystem disruptions if current climate trends continue.
