A significant heat dome is forming over the central and eastern United States, bringing widespread above-average temperatures.
According to NOAA's Weather Prediction Center, highs in the 90s °F (32-37 °C) are expected as far north as the Great Lakes and Minnesota, with temperatures exceeding 100 °F (37.8 °C) in Texas.

Impact & Risks

The heat wave will affect millions across the Plains, Midwest, and East, posing risks of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. Agricultural areas may also face stress on crops and livestock. Severe thunderstorms on the dome's edges could bring localized flooding and wind damage, particularly in the northern Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes regions.
