US · Published Jun 12, 2026
Colorado State University has updated its 2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast, predicting a quieter season compared to earlier projections.
The revised outlook now anticipates 11 named storms, 5 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes, down from the initial forecast of 13 named storms.

Impact & Risks

The reduced storm activity forecast is good news for coastal regions, but it does not eliminate the risk of landfalling hurricanes. Colorado State University estimates a 24% chance of a major hurricane impacting the entire U.S. coastline, with lower probabilities for the East Coast (11%) and Gulf Coast (14%). The Caribbean faces a 26% chance of a major hurricane. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant and prepared despite the quieter outlook.
