A developing storm system in the Gulf of Mexico is set to bring heavy rainfall and coastal flooding to parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama through the weekend.
According to NOAA's Weather Prediction Center (WPC), a Level 1 out of 4 flash flood threat has been issued for the Gulf Coast region, with rainfall totals exceeding 3 inches possible in localized areas.

Impact & Risks

The heaviest rainfall is expected in the New Orleans, Biloxi, and Gulfport metro areas, where flash flooding could occur if multiple storms track over the same locations. Coastal areas from southeast Louisiana to the Mississippi coast are at risk of minor flooding during high tide, with low-lying parks and parking lots particularly vulnerable. Dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions will pose risks to swimmers and beachgoers. Inland areas in the Plains and Midwest may also experience thunderstorms and heavy rain as the system moves northward over the weekend.
