Tropical Storm Moke to Bring Heavy Rainfall and Flood Risks to Hawaii

Hawaii is bracing for significant rainfall from a developing tropical storm, expected to be named Tropical Storm Moke once sustained winds reach 39 mph.
The system, currently 1,000 miles southeast of Hilo, is forecast to bring heavy rain starting late Saturday on the Big Island, spreading to other islands Sunday and Monday.

Impact & Risks

The eastern side of the Big Island faces a significant (level 4 of 5) risk of flash flooding and mudslides, while eastern Maui has an elevated (level 3 of 5) risk. Oahu and Kauai counties may also experience flooding risks on Monday. The storm's impacts, including heavy rain, strong winds, and large waves, could extend well beyond its center. Residents in steep terrain and areas affected by Hurricane Lala are particularly vulnerable to flooding and mudslides.
