Tropical Storm Moke is forecast to pass south of Hawaii this weekend, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to the Big Island and surrounding areas.
According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC), Moke is expected to produce rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches, with isolated areas receiving up to 15 inches, particularly on the windward and southeast slopes of the Big Island.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall could lead to life-threatening flooding and mudslides, particularly in steep terrain and areas still recovering from Hurricane Lala. Gusty winds may cause damage to structures, knock down tree branches, and pose risks to drivers of high-profile vehicles. Additionally, high surf and rip currents along east and south shores may create hazardous conditions for swimmers and surfers. While no tropical storm warnings are currently in effect, the flood watch and wind advisory highlight the potential risks for residents and visitors.
