US · Published Aug 26, 2026
The Chicago area is bracing for potential severe weather midweek, with risks including isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail.
According to the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), eastern Illinois counties such as southeastern Cook, southern Will, and Kankakee are under a 'slight' risk for severe weather, while northern Indiana faces similar conditions.

Impact & Risks

Residents in eastern Illinois and northern Indiana should prepare for severe weather conditions, including the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Areas east of Interstate 57 are particularly vulnerable to the worst impacts, which may include damaging winds over 60 mph and hail. Supercell storms could exacerbate risks, especially during the mid-to-late afternoon hours on Wednesday. While the rest of the Chicago area faces a lower risk, scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible.
