Tropical Storms Bring Flash Flood Threat to Southeast
US · Published May 29, 2026
A tropical weather system is intensifying near the Southeast, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to the region.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, the system is pulling deep moisture from the Gulf and Atlantic, creating conditions for repeated heavy rainfall.
Rainfall totals are expected to reach 2-3 inches in parts of coastal South Carolina and Georgia through the weekend, with some areas receiving up to 5 inches by next Thursday.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses a significant flash flood risk, particularly in northern Georgia and coastal areas of South Carolina and Georgia. Low-lying areas near Charleston may experience localized flooding. Saturated soils from previous storms exacerbate the risk, especially in urban areas like Atlanta. While the rain may provide drought relief in some regions, it also increases the likelihood of water-related hazards, including road closures and property damage.
